The early 50s in New York was a vibrant scene concerned with all sorts of current ideas. Peter recalled discussions with Lennie Tristano and also Charlie Parker about the works of Wilhelm Reich. (Lennie’s brother Michael, a Reichian therapist, used part of his East 42nd street music studio for therapy sessions).

Peter did further scientific research in Big Sur and wrote his first book in 1964 – Cosmic Metabolism and Vortical Accretion (still available on Amazon).

He continued to write science and environmental discussion pieces in the 70s. When the Bass Clef Club closed he started writing in earnest - Jazz Visions, a study of  Lennie Tristano (Equinox 2005) , The Environment and Cosmic Metabolism  (Bargepole 2007), The Bass Clef club – Live Now, Pay Later (Bargepole 2009)  Science as Jazz Improvisation   (2014) as well as drafts  of Conversations about Peter’s Art 1998 -2001 with Sue Jones, his memoirs  Hidden Dragon, Open Universe and a partly finished script about Jazz in New York in the 50s.

POETRY

Peter had always explored poetry and jazz improvisation. In Esalen, Big Sur, he  had  been involved in musical readings with a local renowned English poet, Eric Barker. In the 70s, back in the UK, he had played at poetry/ jazz concerts  with Michael Horowitz and Pete Brown. In the 2000s he developed a special improvisation duo with Peter Marinker (actor/ Poetry first presenter). He even accompanied Molly Parkin on her poetry CD.
